Key Dates — Parent Action Calendar

A quick-reference list of the items that need parental attention or action. Full detail is in Part III.

• Before the year begins: buy all books, including Spielvogel, Western Civilization: Volume I: To 1715, 11th edition — the schedule’s chapter numbers and page ranges assume that edition.
• Week of Aug 20: work begins at home — Week 1’s readings, the first calculus chapters, and the notebook setup are all due at the first meeting.
• Week 1 (Aug 27): calculus notebook set up; thesis project introduced.
• Week 3 (Sept 10): research question + ANI chart due.
• Week 5 (Sept 24): advisor secured and confirmed — in a homeschool setting this usually means helping your student find that adult.
• Weeks 6 and 7 (Oct 1, Oct 8): college application weeks.
• Week 8 (Oct 15): annotated bibliography due.
• No meeting Oct 22: no assigned work.
• Week 10 (Nov 5): Essay #1 (Iliad analysis) due.
• Week 12 (Nov 19): lock-in — working thesis + research plan; Advisor Meeting #1.
• No meeting Nov 26 (Thanksgiving): no assigned work.
• Week 13 (Dec 3): Paragraph Defense (Paragraph #3) — one paragraph on the Spielvogel–Theology interface, defended aloud.
• Week 15 (Dec 17): major work write-up #1 due, abbreviated (outline + key terms only); the exposition folds into the rough draft.
• Winter break (Dec 24, Dec 31, Jan 7): no meetings and no assigned work; deep reading of thesis major works continues.
• Week 16 (Jan 14): Interpretation Essay (Goldsworthy Appendix C) due.
• Weeks 18, 21 (Jan 28, Feb 18): major work write-ups #2 and #3 due.
• Week 23 (Mar 4): full thesis outline due; Advisor Meeting #2.
• Spring break (Mar 18, Mar 25): no meetings, no assigned reading.
• Week 25 (Apr 1): rough draft due.
• Week 26 (Apr 8): peer review workshop; Advisor Meeting #3.
• Week 28 (Apr 22): revised draft + practice presentation; Aeneid complete.
• No meeting Apr 29: no assigned reading.
• Week 29 (May 6): final draft due.
• Week 30 (May 13): presentation and defense before the panel.
